1. The kava drink is used its social benefits.

This is the primary reason that people drink kava in nakamals or a kava bar. They like to meet new people and talk to old friends. Kava drinking has always been a group thing meaning groups of people gather in one place to drink kava surrounding various events such as celebrations, ceremonies, and funerals.

2. The kava drink is consumed for its medicinal benefits.

Kava has been used for several medical purposes including, but not limited to stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, stroke and many other things. Kava pills and extracts are usually used to help treat medical conditions because they are produced under "standardized" conditions and the dosages are supposed to be more reliable. Ask your doctor before trying kava for relief from any medical condition.

3. The kava drink is imbibed recreationally.

Indigenous natives of the south Pacific have used kava as their "drug" of choice for thousands of years. It has been consumed for its mildly euphoric effects on many continents.
